UTStarcom Wins Contract from Jinan, Shandong Province to Accelerate Its Network Transformation and Integration

Sep. 15, 2010 (PR Newswire) --

BEIJING, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- UTStarcom, Inc.
(Nasdaq: UTSI) announced on Sept.15 that it has won the bid for Jinan Radio &
TV Network Center's Equipment Purchase Project to become the Center's
exclusive broadband solution provider and thus step up its network upgrading
efforts. It is revealed that the project will use EPON technology to deploy
wireless network services in residential apartments and office buildings.

Transforming the one-way transmission into the interactive two-way
transmission is the key to realizing the integration of telecommunications
networks, cable TV networks and the Internet. After deployment of the
UTStarcom solution, the Jinan Radio & TV Network Center will be capable of
providing high quality carrier-class broadband and multimedia services to
business and residential customers. With its unique extensibility and
upgradability, the Center will be able to provide Video-on-demand (VOD) and
data broadcasting services and other value added services within its cable TV
network.

The two-way network transformation project will deploy optical access
lines in two ways: EPON + LAN and EPON + EOC. The products it will use mainly
include the OLT BBS1000+box, the machine frame style BBS4000 and ONU204i-h.
The BBS1000 + is highly integrated EPON equipment with built-in L2/L3
switching functionality, supporting up to 8 PON links. Through FTTH / FTTB /
FTTC optic networks, the BBS1000 + provides transmission with bandwidth up to
1Gbps for business and residential customers. The BBS4000 is carrier-class
machine frame style EPON equipment; it supports up to 44 OLT EPON interfaces,
serving a maximum of 2,816 GEPON subscribers via a 9U chassis (splitting ratio
of 1:64 pm).

"We are committed to the integration of telecommunications networks, cable
TV networks and the Internet," said Jack Lu, Chief Executive Officer of
UTStarcom. "Many radio & TV networks have started integrating their networks,
and we anticipate cooperating with them in a variety of ways. UTStarcom will
be more focused on providing services and solutions. The Jinan Radio & TV
Network Transformation Project is a significant part of our ongoing efforts to
strengthen cooperation with broadcasting entities."
